Burgundian Flags

Postby debohunkeith » Fri Jan 08, 2010 6:24 pm

Greetings all

I was wondering whether anyone knew how the flags of the Burgundian army of Charles the Bold were carried? ie Were they mainly carried by men on horse or on foot?

There were heraldic banners of various knights and nobles, the large company standards, guidons and the oblong cornets. Who carried each type? I am assuming that because most men at arms fought on horseback then their banners would be carried by a horseman (?) Would the large standards be carried in the centre of the pike block, or also on horse?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Keith,

I'm posting the thread link to this same question on TMP.

The responses you got there may be of use to readers here at a later date.
